TV Crime Drama

Things I am going to do to prepare for my exam;

• read the brief and annotate it.
• Research the genre- Action Points: -Watch TV Crime Drama e.g.- CSI, Criminal Minds (at least twice a week), Analyse the denotations and connotations, Questions and Surveys. 
• See reviews of some of these programs and make notes.

Log of different Crime Dramas I have seen (British and American) 
Prison Break (20/01/12)

Prison Break is a serial drama which consits of 4 seasons. Unlike other Crime Drama such as CSI or Criminal Minds which have non linking episodes prison break has ongoing episodes which all link one another therefore if you randomly started watching one episode you would be confused with the storyline. This show normally ends with a close up or extreme close up of a characters face which shows that it is either a cliffhanger or something bad is going to happen.
The Audience for this is quite varied starting from teens to mid 40's because the youngest character in Prison Break would be Lincolns son who is about 19 himself.
The main characters that run throughout the 4 Seasons would be Michael- the brother that gets himself imprisoned so it is easier for him to break out his older brother. He gets the blue prints of the prison tattooed onto his body; showing that he had a great plan right before he was sent to jail. Michael is extremly clever. He is a character that is shown to be able to link the smallest possible meaning to something and find clever plans to help with the breakout.  Lincoln- The brother that has been sent to jail because he was set up of the shooting of the vice presidents brother. He admits to Michael that there is someone out there who wants him dead instantly. Sarah- Is the doctor in Fox Rivers jail and she is the one who helps Michael and Lincoln escape because she leaves the door of the room unlocked making it easier to escape. She like Michael is very clever; and because of the 'geniusness' they start getting feelings for eachother.
The marketing of this programme would be social networking and having a website online which gives out sneak peaks of the next episode. This is also very popular in magazines.

Criminal Minds (24/01/12)
Criminal Minds isnt classed as Crime Drama but is classed as 'Mystery Drama and a Thriller'. However it does explore alot of criminal things such as cases from different scenarios.

Sherlock (need to watch)

Sherlock the TV programme is a contemporary update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories.  Sherlock is shown as a very clever man who solves different mysteries.



Comparisons between British Crime Drama and American Crime Drama- 
It is seen between Sherlock which is a British Crime Drama and Prison Break which is an American Crime Drama that in the British ones the police and criminals think alot like eachother when either commiting the crime or solving ot, however in the American ones the police are always seen as the good guys were the criminals are the bad ones.

Sherlock-British Crime Drama-

This is about a secret private detective and his assistant Dr Watson who together solve crimes thatthe police cannot solve, they choose the crimes that they want to solve.

Prison Break- American Crime Drama-

The series revolves around two brothers; one has been sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, and the other devises an elaborate plan to help his brother escape prison.

New Cop Show- 
Name: Undecided
Sub-genre: Crime and Soap
Channel: Channel 5 (8.00pm-9.00pm)
Audience: Mid teens and above
Pilot: -Michael who is apart if the FBI, but does criminal things/ bad stuff with a group calles Scars, where everyone has a tag on there wrist. 
-He hets married.. 5 years on he has a perfect happy family and has left Scars.
-He is also promoted in the FBI.
-First case to capture biggest criminal group.
